With last week being options expiration week, it wasn’t a surprise that markets struggled as that has been the norm for 2021. Even with the disappointing week, the S&P 500 is still in the green for the month.

For the week ahead, do we get that Santa Clause rally to close out the year or is there more choppiness ahead? There is a lot to digest as we move towards 2022, namely the Omicron Covid variant, growth expectations, inflation expectations, and the Federal Reserve already starting down the path to tightening. While the market has been sorting this out – the defensive sectors of the market have been easily outperforming. If this week is a positive one, do they continue to lead? If they do, it could be telling us that the market is worried about the intertwining of those factors.
